The Global Prayer Group for Barotseland is calling on all people of Barotseland and other Christians who know God, to pray and fast for the health and safety of Rt. Hon. Afumba Mombotwa, the head of Barotseland transitional government, currently incarcerated at Zambia's state prison of Mwembeshi for trumped up charges of treason without trial. Barotseland Administrator General Afumba Mombotwa was arrested on December 5th of 2014 together with Hon. Sylvester Kalima Nambao and Rt. Hon Likando Pelekelo.

Others also incarcerated in various Zambian jails over similar charges of sedition or publication of false news with intent to alarm the nation – a charge that was recently ruled unconstitutional in the Zambian high court, although Barotse people are arrested and convicted over the same unconstitutional charges in Zambian courts, are Hon. Masiye Masiyaleti, Hon. Mubita Waluka who are members of the transitional government, and the Barotseland National Youth League trio of Boris Muziba, Nayoto Mwenda and Sikwibele Wasilota. On 4t December 2014, Judge I.C.T Chali ruled at Lusaka High Court, in a case between 'MacDonald Chipenzi, Richard Sakala, Simon Mwanza' and the 'People' on one count of Publication of False information with intent to cause fear and alarm to the public, contrary to section 76(1) of the penal code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia, that this was not only Unconstitutional in a post colonial democratic state such as Zambia. However, what is sad is that four Barotseland nationals namely, Mubita Waluka, Boris Muziba, Nayoto Mwenda and Sikwibele Wasilota are currently serving prison sentences of up to 3 years with hard labor on the same charge deemed unconstitutional in Zambia.

“We wish to request that private and corporate prayers be continually raised on behalf of all these leaders and their families. Pray for their safety, and that of their families, and pray for justice to be done in their cases,” appealed Heather, the international coordinator of the Global Prayer Group.

She further advised to pray with the wisdom of the Holy Scripture, and with fasting to the best of people’s abilities and opportunities, either individually or corporately with families or friends or indeed as church groups.

“Pray alone, seeking scripture, pray out loud and pray in thoughts, pray with your family and friends, ‘where two or three are gathered’, in bible studies, in church, and where possible, asking all Pastors to hold special prayers dedicated to the leaders in prisons as they need all our prayers now, more than ever before, until justice has been granted to them,” concluded Heather.

The Global Prayer Group for Barotseland is a non denominational social network of people from various countries of the world, who have joined together in prayer devotion for and on behalf of Barotseland and Zambia, so that the two will resolve peacefully the matters that have come between them as a result of the defunct Barotseland Agreement of 1964, cutting across political and denominational persuasions.
