King Mwanawina Lewanika III, KBE was born on the 07th February, 1888 at Lealui. He ruled from 1948 to 1968 in Barotseland as the twenty-first (21st) Litunga from Queen Mwambwa. He was actually the Litunga Mwanawina III, after the 10th Litunga King Mwanawina I and the 16th King Mwanawina II (1876 - 1878). King Mwanawina Lewanika III, KBE was bestowed with the title of the Knight Commander of the British Empire (KBE) on the 1st January, 1959. Due to the role he played during the attempted formation of Zambia he is also eulogized as the “KING OF ZAMBIA” by some scholars. Having died on 13th Nov 1968 his centenary since his passing away comes on 13th November, 2068 much so in the completely independent New Barotseland!

Celebrating the King Lewanika legacies also could mean learning serious lessons from the life and accomplishments of Litunga Mwanawina Lewanika III, KBE in some or all of the following observed facts about him:

1. He was educated at Parish Missionary Society (PMS) Missionary School in Barotseland, Lovedale College and the University of Cape Town both in South Africa. We see in him, just like his namesake and predecessor Lubosi Lewanika, virtues of a successful native, international politician and leader EDUCATED FOR SERVICE AND NOT SERVITUDE. Therefore,

a. let all those esteemed educated Barotzish do likewise today, in the name of Barotseland and doing so honestly in the spirit of the 2012 BNC UDI Mandate, for the ultimate independence of our country Barotseland. It is said that “Education/Knowledge is power” but how can people acquire it unless they are taught? What is your role?

b. We must continue teaching people the reality of Barotseland’s status, especially those who are still offering resistance to Barotse Change. It has been observed that most Zambians who are dissident to Barotse Change actually have never offered their counter version of Zambian history. We have instead seen their government evading international processes for them to state and defend their cause! So, in Barotse Change this means education for all who desire to know and embrace the truth while ignoring those who are determined to remain ignorant about it all but only resist or argue deceptively and erroneously. Therefore, celebrating the legacy of King Lewanika, among others, means taking an active part in Barotse Change Mass Education Program that way shaking and awakening your neighbour to the reality of the Barotse Change agenda ultimatum – doing so in the spirit of “Linyungandambo” and “Lindunda la Mulonga” historic and contemporary Barotseland independence perspectives.

2. He served in Great War as commander of Barotse Carriers in East African Campaign from 1916 to 1918. Consequently, he was honored with Allied Victory and British War medals.

a. What a beauty it can be to see all loyal Barotseland nationals stand up in PATRIOTISM AND NATIONALISM to campaign for ultimate freedom of Barotseland! If your name and influence can exude and cross borders of Barotseland into foreign lands, like Litunga Mwanawina Lewanika III, KBE then do so in whatever capacity, more so for the sake of Barotseland. The month of February affords us an opportunity to refresh our commitment to the noble ideals of Barotse Change for our motherland Barotseland, as we honor, remember, celebrate and esteem how best our successful ancestors demonstrated their lives to this very same cause.

b. We have heard before that “A Patriot will stand and fight because land and territory is under threat, but a Nationalist must fight because identity, culture and values are undermined.” Seeing how important the subjects of patriotism and nationalism are it becomes mandatory and an open high level classified recommendation that our people, as Barotzish, we start dressing ourselves, our properties and drapery in the national colors in trying to instil these virtues and reality in us and thus raise high the Barotseland National Flag. This is very necessary for removing the veil and plague of identity crisis among our people, replacing them with ‘Tukongote wa mwanaa Nongolo’ , Kopano ki Mata, Tukongote Litunga ni Lyetu Slogans and Proudly Barotzish mindset, in branding our new nation; just because birds of the same feathers (nationality, culture, language, etc.) fly together.

3. He was pressured into signing the Barotseland Agreement of 1964 which paved way for Barotseland and Northern Rhodesia to amalgamate and for the creation of the attempted unitary state of ‘Republic of Zambia'. However, in commemorating the great works of King Mwanawina Lewanika III and in the SPIRIT OF 2012 BNC RESOLUTIONS this means:

a. Abstaining from making history repeat itself in retrospect. Our own history rightly informs us that around 1963-1964 the King was highly objectionable to the BA ’64 deal while Barotseland politicians were high proponents for the same. Conversely, around 2011-2012 and Post 2012 BNC in the Barotseland Transition Government (BTG) era the opposite has been the norm; politicians have been strong proponents for the complete independence of Barotseland while the Monarch (King) has been seriously courting around with GRZ in opposition! Celebrating the Lewanika Legacy this time around means UNITY OF DIVERSITY AND PURPOSE for New Barotseland.

b. Resolving never to be involved in any bogus activities like hypocritical, imitation, false or fake political dialogues which are actually attempts to perpetually repress and annex Barotseland to Northern Rhodesia and pave way for the re-creation of a hoax Unitary State called Republic of ‘Zambia’. We are in this diabolic political and economic mess today largely because of the express dissidence of our “elite” brothers and sisters at the time who chose to pursue vainglory at the expense of motherland Bulozi’s autonomy.

c. Not allowing the monarch to run the full course of self-deception; there were TWO SIGNATORIES AT PAR during the signing of the BA’64 and the revocation of the same International Treaty - the same signatories were used when by action of Zambia’s abrogation and repudiation of the treaty and also the 2012 BNC Resolutions in affirmation of the annulment. Therefore, the whole process now just awaits the involvement of the third signatory, as it was in the beginning, as an international arbiter to finally satiate the whole process of complete disengagement of the two party states. It is time for the monarchy to believe in self and assume the parity of power with the republic Zambia and other neighboring states and stop inferiority complex and continue being bullied by the illegally occupying state of Zambia. The elephant symbolism must re-gain its eminence just like did King Lewanikas. With or without the BA ’64 Barotseland was and is a state and nation NOT Province!

d. Since the BA ’64 Litunga Mwanawina Lewanika III, KBE was pressured to sign actually never got ratified and effected by Zambia followed by the ultimate annulment of the same by party states, it is illogical and total psychosis for anybody to talk about restoration of BA ’64 Treaty other than COMPLETE BAREXIT from the failed unitary statehood with Northern Rhodesia.
