His Eminence, Cardinal Peter K. A. Turkson, President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace at the Holy See (inset picture) has been sent a special prayer request for today Sunday, 30th April 2017, concerning the three Barotse political prisoners in Zambia.

His Eminence’s council embodies the Pope’s care for suffering humanity, including the needy, and pays special attention to the needs and issues of those who are imprisoned, and others whose dignity is endangered.

Mr. Afumba Mombotwa, Mr. Inambao Kalima, and Mr. Likando Pelekelo’s names have also been included in the prayers of the faithful for the seven Masses of the Day.

And Fr. Ignacio Muyunda, based in Rome, Italy, has appealed to all his brothers, the priests, and people of God everywhere to join this Novena Prayer for the three Barotse who are currently in jail for political reasons.

The NOVENA prayer is expected to end on the 4th of May, 2017 after which the Vatican based Clergyman will personally engage the Zambian president concerning the Barotse trio.

Here below is the NOVENA Prayer request for Day Five, today, Sunday 30th April, 2017.

NOVENA PRAYERS FOR THOSE IN PRISON – DAY FIVE

# Sunday, 30th April, 2017 we will continue to pray for Mr. Afumba Mombotwa, Mr. Inambao Kalima, and Mr. Likando Pelekelo. We have included their names during the prayers of faithful for the seven Masses of the Day.

# We have also sent a special prayer request to His Eminence Cardinal Peter K. A. Turkson, President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace at the Holy See. (See file picture) According to the Statutes of Pontifical Council approved by Pope Francis, Article 1, §3. the Dicastery also expresses the Holy Father’s care for suffering humanity, including the needy, …pays special attention to the needs and issues of those who are … imprisoned, and others whose dignity is endangered.

# It is my humble prayer that all my brother priests and people of God everywhere will join in this Novena Prayer for these three Men. God is able to do miracles when we least expect them.

# This call for prayer is not only a right but also a duty of the Catholic Church, “because she cannot forsake this responsibility without denying herself and her fidelity to Christ: “Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel!” (1 Cor 9:16). Because of the public relevance of the Gospel and faith, because of the corrupting effects of injustice, that is, of sin, the Church cannot remain indifferent to social matters. “To the Church belongs the right always and everywhere to announce moral principles, including those pertaining to the social order, and to make judgments on any human affairs to the extent that they are required by the fundamental rights of the human person or the salvation of souls.” (Cf. Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church, no. 71.

# Light your Candle, make the sign of the Cross and let us pray:

Pause before you begin to pray. Hear the words of Jesus speak to you: "I was in prison and you visited me…" Jesus, with the Father and the Holy Spirit…Give us your compassion for those in prison. Mend in mercy the broken in mind and memory. Soften the hard of heart, the captives of anger. Free the innocent, parole the trustworthy. Awaken the repentance that restores hope. May prisoners' families persevere in their love.

Our Father….x 3
Glory be ….x 3

# Jesus, Heal the victims of injustice. They live with the scars. Grant victims' families the forgiveness that heals. Give wisdom to lawmakers and to those who judge. Instill prudence and patience in those who guard. Make those in prison ministry bearers of your light, for all of us are in need of your mercy!

Amen.
