The Kufuluhela annual festival, the less publicized festival than Kuomboka, is set to take place this weekend.

While Kuomboka is the coming out of the flooded plains, Kufuluhela is the return to the rich soils of the plain once the water has subsided.

It is in reality the reverse of Kuomboka, and therefore, as spectacular as the Kuomboka water festival itself.

Honorable Likando Kalaluka imprisoned alongside Barotseland independence leader Afumba Mombotwa and Inambao Kalima has urged all citizens of Barotseland to stand firm for their motherland.

Sensing imminent defeat in the ongoing cases of ‘Seditious intention to secede  Western province from the rest of Zambia’ and ‘Seditious practices for unlawful possession of seditious material’ respectively, Zambia police now seek to arrest Barotse activist Muleta Kalaluka indefinitely using Edgar Lungu’s declared state of emergency.

After unlawfully detaining him for three months without trial, bail or any basic human rights, the draconian Zambian state has finally decided to release the young Barotse activist, Munukayumbwa Munyinda, via Nolle prosequi.

When the Barotse complained and cried about the apparent suspension and blatant violation of their basic human rights such as freedom of speech, expression, conscience and assembly under successive Zambian regimes, more especially under the current Edgar Lungu led government, many Zambians laughed and mocked that the Lozi ‘secessionists’ deserved to be treated with such heavy handedness.

The statement popularly attributed to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, that our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter, must inspire all Barotse to continue speaking for Barotseland because silence is no longer an option.
